Carolina Blue!

Happy Spring Friends!

As March Madness winds down to a depressing non-Carolina finish, a trip to the beach reminded me that my passion for Carolina Blue still lives!

How you say?

After Kendall Marshall broke his wrist, I have to admit, my hopes were dashed for another crown…and sure enough…it played out.  The potential of my Hoops Pool winnings went from a $225 payout (a standing I held for a most of they tourney).  March Madness Depression, let’s go ahead and name this as an official condition, struck me hard.

But wait!  This weekend, we went to Holden Beach and with the richness of the Carolina Blue sky surrounding us and the sun glittering on the casual tiny waves, all cares were washed away.  The sky was such a deep gorgeous blue and there were tons of birds and dolphins all around.  We helped clean up the beach, filling less than a quarter of a trash bag because there is literally no trash.  We fed the birds crackers and and dug for the little clam like things.  For real….that’s the ultimate cure.

Enjoy the photo…and then come live the experience!

Here’s to a 2013 NCAA Crown Tarheels!!!

Is Summer Here to Stay?

I cannot even believe how GLORIOUS this week has been.  I actually went running every single day this week (it’s usually a Sunday morning long one).  No humidity in North Carolina is, of course, a dream.  The temperatures have brought out the best in everyone and we are all now thinking of Summer.   Next week is forecasted to be similar – I almost can’t take it.  I’m one of those people who love all four seasons (read:  all FOUR seasons).  I would have loved a good snow, but the holidays this year were so perfect for us, that when it started warming up, I was looking forward to Spring.  Of course, that lasted, what, a hot second?  Anyhow, I for one, would love 70ish degree weather, no humidity and late night rains to carry us through the end of May.  Then, let’s turn it up to 90 and hit the beach!

Speaking of hitting the beach – look at these three.  Can you guess what they are?  It’s a family of dolphins right in the break of the waves.  Just gorgeous!  I took these two years ago, in March.  We were at OB West Indies getting our home ready for the season.  We’d go down to the beach every morning around 9:30 and there they were – for three days straight.  They would swim from the pier to the Sunset Isle end of the beach.  Then, around 2:00, we would be on the beach again and they would be swimming back towards the pier.

I’m telling you – if you have ever seen dolphins, you know what I’m saying here.  It’s almost an ethereal feeling.  They are so graceful and emit love, and then to see a mom and dad swimming with a baby…put it on your bucket list!  Promise.

Enjoy the weekend and coming week!  GO TARHEELS!

OB West Indies Welcomes Spring to Holden Beach

Happy Spring Everyone!

This is our first post on our new Blog. We are excited to use this site to share great guest stories, photos and video of our home at Holden Beach. You may be asking…”How did you come about the name “OB West Indies” for your condo? Well, our family loves the beach. Sadly, because of work, and busy kids, we don’t get there as much as we would like, but nonetheless, we love it. Hence…Outer Banks (OB). Then, Dave and I got married in the West Indies in the Caribbean. Clearly, it holds a special place for us. And, there becomes…West Indies. As I said, we aren’t able to get there as much as we would like, but that provide more opportunities for you to see the treasures that are Holden Beach in the comfort of OB West Indies.

People often wonder what all the hype is about Holden Beach. Some would even say it’s got a cult like following. I could list many reasons, but I will list the Top 3.

  1. It’s Pristine. The photo here is what you will see. I guarantee it. This is Holden in the morning, just steps away from OB West Indies. The beaches are immaculate, the dunes are protected and the water is always calm and clear. All the owners work very hard to keep Holden beautiful.
  2. It’s Quiet. Accessible only by a singular bridge (which, BTW is a thrill ride the first time you do it), the view is 360* from the causeway to the ocean. Because of this, traffic is very limited. There aren’t cars zipping up and down, nor are there tons of stores and restaurants lining the beach. That said – you want action? 40 minutes south – Myrtle Beach – anything, everything with a cherry on the top.
  3. It’s Perfect. When you go to the beach, you are looking for sun, sand and great memories. That’s what Holden is. Perfect sunrises and sunsets, fine grain sand and whenever you want – freshly caught shrimp. The restaurants are all locally owned and often times have live music in the evenings. To me, and to all of you who love to vacation at the beach…this is perfect. I mean really, does it get any better?

We’re thrilled you found us. We will keep everyone updated as the season progresses. We have some wonderful couples and families who have already booked up our Spring season!

Sunny regards!
